Robert's musical journey began in 1976 when he ran a record shop 'Sapien Sounds' in Camden Town till 1980. Worked as a DJ at The Venue, Victoria, London. Occasional stints with Radio London as presenter, programmer for a soul funk show. In 1981 Robert moved to Perth, Australia. He worked as a jouranlist/music critic for the 5 0' Clock news, a weekly music paper. Robert also joined the reggae crew at 6UVS FM University Station. While there, he DJ'd at 'Beethoven's' and 'La Vien' on Fridays and Saturdays respectively. In 1982 Robert made his way to Sydney and joined Selina's, Coogee Bay as a DJ/programmer/MC working with both international and local rock bands for the next 6 years. In 1983, he joined the Hip-hop Nightclub now known as 'Goodbar' with Ian Hartley till 1985. In 1986, Robert went back to Perth and played for 6 months at the 'Headsman Hotel', Wembley. Returning to Sydney in 1987, Robert worked for the following clubs: 'Cauldron', 'The Goldfish Bowl', 'The Empire', 'Stranded Nightclub' (Strand Arcade. Meanwhile, he continued writing for Studio Collection, Rock Australia Magazine, Countdown Magazine, Rolling Stones Magazine Australian Edition. Also contributed to Melody Maker in the UK. From 1992 Robert was engaged at the Q Bar, Sydney at the time considered the premium club in the southern hemisphere. Robert played Fridays and Saturdays as main resident DJ for a period of six years to packed houses every night. Some of the best underground house tracks were Roberts fodder and at this time he became presenter programmer for Triple J fm's "Groovetrain Funk Show". Robert became first DJ in Australia to feature a world music night, named Sirocco on Wednesday nights at The Establishment entertainment complex in Sydney for a residence lasting a year specialising in world progressive music. Robert now has a regular gig as a DJ/programmer at Bondi FM with the Rhythm, Passion & Grace Show on Tuesdays from 4-6pm. There are plans for Robert to do a late-night show once a month for the international time zone. A compilation Cd is in the works for a summer release. Robert is now working on a documentary script on the Fall of Rhodesia which is the end of british colonial domination in the third world. |
