In the spirit of “Think Global, Act Local”, each local Earthdance promoter pledges to donate at least 50% of their profit to a local charity. Funds raised from Earthdance Sydney will go to Oasis Youth Support Network, which provides services to homeless youth across Sydney, and Childwise, an organisation that protects children from sexual abuse and exploitation. The Earthdance Australia events in 2006, with the support of City of Sydney and Melbourne Council, featured two of the most successful global Earthdance community festivals in the world. Last year, police estimated 25,000 attendees throughout the day at Syney Park. This year, Earthdance Sydney is expecting more people to the festival. Earthdance is a free festival and relies heavily on donations from attendees on the day, market stalls and the Earthdance bar. Also keep your eyes peeled for info regarding Earthdance after parties, also an important source of income for the festival. Free entry with a gold coin but good karma for notes. Opening Ceremony & Global Link-Up After group yoga/meditation led by a prominent local yogi, the opening ceremony starts with the Global Prayer for Peace at 9am. This is the defining moment for Earthdance festivals around the world symbolizing a ‘healing’ prayer for the planet. Involving a synchronized global dance floor link-up (Where Dj’s at ALL Earthdance festivals across the world play a specially produced song for peace at exactly the same moment), international web cast, and presentations by the local aboriginal elders and politically active personages - this deeply felt shared experience truly captures the essence of the Earthdance mission and creates a profound moment of unity and peace.
