The Strides expanded 14 piece with Afro Moses head to the Basement on Thursday 28th October for an electrifying night of Afrobeat as they pay tribute to the legendary Fela Kuti. Prepare to hit the dancefloor in what will be one of the year's most unforgettable nights!
The Strides and Afro Moses pay homage to the father of Afrobeat, the Nigerian singer, saxophonist and political activist, Fela Kuti. With his infectious mix of african dance music and James Brown style funk, the music will have you dancing from the first down beat.
The Strides bring together some of Sydney's best new talent in Afrobeat, reggae, jazz and hip-hop, spurring a new wave of Sydney interest in the hypnotic grooves of Afrobeat. They have been compared to Fat Freddy's Drop and the Cat Empire, yet have something of their own in grooves that will transport you to another place.
Afro Moses hails from Ghana, Africa, and his music carries the life-force of his homeland. He has carved out a reputation in Australia and Africa as one of the most energetic and spirited performers.
The Strides will also feature the vocals of Reggae master Ras Roni from Trinidad via London, along with the fresh sound of Fijian MC Lil Gzeus (Little Jesus). The pair deliver a genuine vocal style with echoes of Bob and Damian Marley, Sizzla, Eek-a-Mouse, Barrington Levy and Mos Def. The Strides debut self titled CD, releasedDecember 2009 is out now through Earshift/Fuse.
